This week was great and busy and I feel like we had lots going on, although actually almost no one was here. And it was ridiculously hot. The streets were empty, with everyone at the beaches or the rivers.  We had the goal to consciously share the Atonement with everyone we talked to this week, and it was really cool.

Hermana Hernandez had a birthday on Friday, so we celebrated in style. We had French toast for breakfast and a cake made out of pinguinos, which are the Central American version of Hostess cupcakes. That was fun.

Saturday we were able to go to the Women's Meeting, which was awesome. I loved hearing from the sisters and also Pres. Eyring. The messages were inspiring, I felt the major themes were serving as Christ would and loving our neighbors as He would. I loved it and it made me real excited for General Conference this weekend. 

This morning we went with the zone to climb through a mountain jungle in search of some waterfalls, it was really awesome. It was hard and took a while but it was so pretty! Shoot, this country has some beautiful things in it and I love it so much. 

Last night President Bowler called me to tell me that I will be transferred. They will be giving this area to the other hermanas in our ward. Hermana Hernandez is finishing her mini mission and will be going to her house [to prepare for her full-time mission to Chile in May] and I will be going to La Esperanza in Tegucigalpa again, serving as a Sister Training Leader with Hermana Zaragoza. 

I have so many mixed feelings with leaving my area and Danli and with the assignment that I will have, but it will be fun as well! I am so grateful to know that even though I don't know what I am doing that God knows me and loves me and will always guide me through His spirit. 

So anyway, attached are pictures from the birthday, some delicious Honduran watermelon, an Easter basket that Hermana Powers made for me, and some missionaries lost in the jungle.

Yo amo Danli (I love Danli)

This week was pretty tranquila, not much going on around here. We went out getting to know our area a bit more, finding out that it's even HUGER than we thought! Climbing around in the jungley mountains of Honduras is sweet. It's impressive how these people live in the middle of nowhere, just like literally on the top of a mountain. 

We are doing well, finding the escogidos [hidden] and working with the members here who are really great about helping us. 

Right now we are working to get the boys Luis and Gonzalo ready for baptism, maybe next week. They are really smart and love the Church.

This week is Semana Santa, which has lived up to its fame of being just ridiculously hot. Also, no one works and everyone leaves town to go swimming up in the mountains. So we will see how that goes!

I am excited for the opportunity to focus on the Savior this week and to remember His life, His Sacrifice, and His resurrection. I know that He lives. I have seen His presence in my life and have seen the miracles that He has worked in the lives of others as well as my own. I know this is His church and His gospel, and the only way we can make it back to live with Him. I testify that the Savior and our Heavenly Father love us and are aware of us and I am so grateful to be able to share that with the people of Honduras.

This week was another fantastic week in the work of the Lord.

It was filled with: Mountain-climbing, cow-petting, chicken-chasing, investigator-finding, tripping to Tegucigalpa for a cita [appointment] for my comp - only to find out that the doctor had her appendix out the night before and wasn't there, hopping back on the bus and tripping back to Danli, doing service, baleada-making, chismole-eating, challenging to baptism, receiving rejection to said challenge, praying real hard, relying on the Lord, seeing miracles, lots of laughing, praying, patience-testing, splits with the Hermana Leaders, and much more! 

Sonia Hernandez is my companion's name, and she is fun. This week when we went to Teguc we went to Popeyes for lunch. I guess she hasn't gone out to eat very often because she was FASCINATED with the soda options, and that she could get refills whenever she wanted - she even took some for the bus ride back. Everything is fun and interesting to her. And she has so much faith and confidence in the Lord. She wants to talk to everyone. She even likes to stop the people on bikes to contact, it's great. 

Good to know I have an immunity to Zika now! The whole world is freaking out about it down here, saying that it can be passed through saliva and sweat in addition to mosquitoes, and once you have it you can't have kids or you're more likely to have other problems later - not so. I'm fine now. 

Luiz and Gonzalo are praying, reading the Book of Mormon, and have been attending church for the past 4 months straight, they are doing awesome. 

Prayer is so key to the people we teach, to get that personal testimony that they need for conversion. Praying with them helps, giving them an example of how to do it. Helping them recognize when they are feeling the Spirit is also important, because oftentimes they don't realize that the Lord is already answering them. 

This week we had a great workshop with our zone, relating to the training the leaders had gotten from Elder Alonso the week before. We talked a lot about trusting in God and always being aware of the promptings of the Spirit to find new investigators.

I realized that sometimes I try to do things my way before asking how He knows it should be. As we put our trust in God, praying with real intent, that is when the miracles happen. I was reminded of the verse in Ether 12 that says that God can't show us any miracle until AFTER the trial of our faith. That is so true. Faith is actions, and actions are working like everything depends on us and praying like everything depends on Him.

Just one of the great meals we eat: Spaghetti Honduran style. It's made with lots of sugar in the sauce (reminds me of Buddy the Elf spaghetti), salad, and scrambled eggs with sausage. All eaten with a tortilla. It's normal, right?

We had a great week last week.

Monday we felt better so we got to go out to work, and the rest of the week we were able to work as normal, with drinking lots of water and taking it easy. The blood test I did last week said I had Zika, so I've overcome that one!  But luckily I got a light case. The blood test I did last Monday said I had about no white blood cells, but the one I did on Wednesday said everything was good.  The members have been real great to take care of us, as well as President and Hermana Bowler.

Thursday we had a special conference with Elder and Sister Alonso which was really neat. It was basically an open question-and-answer session, and he taught us a lot about the Atonement. Everything in the doctrine of the Church, everything in this life, and the plan of salvation centers on the Atonement of Jesus Christ, the sacrifice that He did for us to make it back to Him. He explained how we are literally preparing the earth for the second coming of Jesus Christ, and it was really great. 

Yesterday was regional conference for Central America, which was via satellite from Salt Lake City. The messages were really great and inspired as well. Elder Anderson talked about the Book of Mormon and how it really is the keystone of our religion. We took the two boys again, Luis and Gonzalo, and they really liked it. They've been reading the Book of Mormon with one of those cartoon books the church has and they explained to me Lehi's vision before the meeting. They are special kids, we just have to work on the parents. 

Well, that's about it! This afternoon we made lunch in our house with Hermana Powers and Hermana Cedeno, which was fun. [Hermana Powers is from Roy, Utah, Amy's companion for 2 weeks last Sept., and her only English speaking companion so far.]
