Amy's letter dated 10/24/16:

It's been a great week here in San Luis. It has been raining a ridiculous amount, the government has put a flood warning and the even cancelled school a few days this week. Other parts further out of town have had some serious damage done but our area is mostly okay. With all the rain we have enjoyed some chilly days, mixing up the heat a bit, which has been nice.

On Saturday the ward had a baptism for the daughter of the family who feeds us, and we were called in to help empty the font from the elders' baptism a few weeks ago. The water was super gross and the drain doesn't work so we were hauling buckets from the font and dumping them down the sinks and the toilets to get rid of it all because someone had the idea that that would be easier than taking it outside. We ended up making a huge mess and having to mop up the bathroom, but we got the job done and pulled off the baptism.

We are getting along with finding investigators and teaching. We had some excellent spiritual lessons this week and know we are doing our part, even if we won't see the results right now. Missionary work has its ups and downs, our patience is tested, but if we are obedient and diligent in our work, doing everything in our power, I know the Lord will provide. It's a fun process to be a part of and I am so grateful to be here, no matter how hard it is sometimes!

Also the other night after it had rained super bad we were walking around and felt my shoe kind of different but didn't think much of it. After arriving at the house I looked and noticed that I had a huge hole in the sole of the shoe, that it just didn't have any more life left in it. "Oh how beautiful are the feet of those who proclaim the gospel..." Or however the scripture goes.

Also we found a frog in our house, adding it to the list! Life just keeps getting interesting.

This week we get to have a special conference in Tegucigalpa with Elder Oaks, which should be really neat! We are excited. Also Wednesday is transfers. Hermana Realivazquez is getting transferred to Danli. That doesn't make us too excited, but that's okay!

Also on Thursday Hermana Powers will be finishing the mission and I can't believe how fast the time has gone! So crazy. I'm gonna miss her here in the mission.

They don't do Halloween here, they think it's a Satanic holiday and can't believe we celebrate it as members of the church - even doing church-sponsored activities for it. I try to explain that it's all innocent.

Have a wonderful week!

This week was alright, with lots of accomplishments and disappointments just like any good week here in Honduras.

Yesterday we went to find one of the hermanas who was pretty positive in the afternoon. When we got close we yelled "Buenas!" as is customary, and the door closed really fast. From inside we could hear her two little kids yelling "We're sleeping!" ... "Um, my parents are sleeping! Come back another day!" And we talked with them for a little bit and then I saw the hermana peek out the window. Okay, that's fine!

We went to another house where we had met with another hermana and the daughter was out front. We asked if her mom was home, she's all, "Yeah give me a sec" and runs around back. She comes back and says, "Well she actually is at the hospital right now." "Okay", I say, "Go ask her when we can come back". She runs back and says, "She says she's Catholic, so like never." Okay.

We go to another house where the hermana is outside and we asked her if she has some time to share a message with her. She's like, "No because my pastor says I shouldn't listen to you, so like you shouldn't come anymore." Alright, that's cool.

But we also had some good experiences, with an hermana telling us she felt like our message was so refreshing, like she was thirsty for something she didn't know she was missing. Or a different lesson with a brother of a less-active hermana. He asked us to tell him more about our church, and was so interested in the fact that there's a living prophet. Yeah, it's pretty cool, and like it's the true church.

So we have learned a lot and are going to press forward with a steadfastness in Christ (2 Nephi 31:20) and are hoping to see many miracles!

We also celebrated the birthday of the hermana who takes care of us and cooks for us, picture attached. Hermana Raquel is so special and has helped us so much, she really takes the missionaries under her wing and opens her home to us.

Also attached is a picture of the cat that Hermana Realivazquez stole from our neighbor - AKA he likes us better so he prefers to hang out in our house.

Have a great week! Thanks for the love and prayers.

I don't have a lot of time, but just a few things:

-Had splits with Hermana Bernal and Hermana Gomez, they are the best and we had a great time. Hermana Bernal is this cute little thing from Washington. An hermana we were contacting in the street said to me, "Aw, what a cute girl, is she yours?" And we laughed really hard about that.

-The latest Honduran Woman counsel: Don't eat shrimp late at night because it provokes epilepsy.

-Attached is the newest member of the family, found in our sink where we wash clothes. Our neighbor luckily took it out and smashed it with a rock.

-Our apartment is now 100 percent piojo-free, gracias to lots of diligent sanitizing and lice shampoo use.

-We had a great hermanas conference with Hermana Bowler, where she brought us cheesecake. :)

-Found lots of great potential investigators who want to listen to the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. I think I take for granted sometimes that every day I get to be a representative of Jesus Christ and invite others to make changes, becoming closer to Him. Allowing them a relief from their sorrows and their heartaches and an exit from the lies of Satan and the traps of sin. It's amazing what we are a part of, and we should be a lot more grateful.

Things are going great down here in Cholutexas, thanks for the prayers and support! Have a great week!

Another good one for the books.

This week our petting zoo grew, as we found [in our house]:
-1 kitty
-1 huge scary spider
-About 20 geckos
-1 centipede
-1 salamander type thing that ran really fast across the floor
-A few more piojos :)

Keeps life interesting! We have been more careful about when we leave the door open and have gotten good use out of our broom to kill the little critters or shoo them outside.

General Conference: Our star investigator Wendy was set on going to conference with us, and then at the last minute all of a sudden she moved! So that was a bummer. Also, Sunday we left early in the morning to go invite the whole world to conference to take advantage of the bus the ward had rented, and then no. one. went. It was kind of disappointing because, the PROPHET was going to speak to us, we were going to hear the words of the Lord, who wouldn't want to be a part of that? And you were going to get FREE transportation! But it was okay. Being patient with other peoples' agency has been a huge lesson for me on my mission.

Conference was stellar. I watched in English with the other American missionaries. I loved everything and was so glad we were able to be nourished spiritually. I am so grateful for a living prophet and for the priesthood authority!

Pants for the sisters - Yes, the sisters have them! A while ago when I was still in Teguc we finally got them but actually they were a bunch of mixed up sizes, and the ones that were made for me fit better on another sister so I gifted them to her, and since I am going home in December they won't be making me more. I was kind of disappointed but it's alright.

Have a great week, lots of love,
Hermana White

A birthday party for an hermana's son, if you can see him under the big piƱata, haha

Our area in the middle of nowhere.
We walk around with umbrellas, to not get overwhelmed by the strong sun.
