Well, here we are with another week down! 

This week was good. We started off with a multi-family Noche de Hogar Misional [Missionary FHE] where we shared the story of Lehi's dream. We had everyone write down things that would draw them closer to the great and spacious building, and things that would keep them holding onto the rod of iron. It was really great. Beforehand we helped Hna Xiomara make pastelitos, which are like empanadas with rice inside. 

Also this week we had splits with the Hermanas of Guaymuras which was great.

My companion completed 18 months in the mission, and someone else completed a year, so we got crazy and went to TGI Fridays for lunch. We felt really out of place in such a fancy joint, but the food was good!

We've been having some crazy rainstorms here, mostly during the night, and then the next day is super hot and humid. Dah well. I am doing well, working hard and finding people, and always facing the new trials! Things are good, can't complain about anything right now. 

This year has flown by, and at the same time I never imagined I would make it this far. I really have grown to love and appreciate the gospel of Jesus Christ and the perfectness of His love and plan for us. I know that this church is the only true church upon the face of the earth and feel so incredibly grateful to have been born into a family that I can be with for all eternity. 

I know that Jesus Christ knows each one of us personally and wants to help us in any way that we will let Him. I feel so incredibly humbled to be able to serve His children here in Honduras and am trying every day to be the kind of missionary that He expects me to be. I know that only through the Holy Ghost can I do the will of my Father, and say the right words if and only when I open my mouth. I am so grateful for the scriptures and for the guidance that we can receive from them. I have grown to love and treasure them.

I am so grateful for and sustain a living prophet and his apostles and know that they lead and guide this church through revelation through the priesthood keys that they hold.

Well, this week was pretty good. 

Wednesday we had interviews and a training with President Bowler, which was really good. Friday we had splits with the sisters from Santa Lucia, and Saturday and Sunday we had stake conference, where Elders Ochoa and Cheverri from the Seventy visited. 

Sunday morning before the 9 o'clock session there was a small meeting with the recent converts and investigators that we took Hermana Irma and Hermana Ingrid to. They loved it, I don't know if they realize how lucky they are to have personally met general authorities. 

They explained what a stake conference is, the role that the stake president has over the stake, and how they should really feel the love and support here in the church. 

Elder Cheverri explained beautifully the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the necessity of faith, repentance, baptism, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end. Elder Ochoa talked about the importance of temples and family history work, and how blessed Honduras is to have a temple! Hermana Irma is super stoked for her baptism. She wants to get going on her family history work and we are just waiting for her to put a baptism date on it! 

Also on Friday we did what's called an Ataque de Area, where all 7 companionships of our zone came to our area to help us contact and find investigators for a couple hours, which was cool. Hopefully the references we got from that will be good for us! Here's hoping.

Tonight we have a Super Family Home Evening planned with a few less-active families and investigators. Hopefully everything goes well!  

On Sundays we eat lunch with an older couple in our ward, and all their kids and grandkids always come over as well, it's a houseful. It  reminds me a lot of the Sundays at home. 

I am doing great, can't believe how fast time is flying, and couldn't be happier doing the work I'm doing where I am right now. So grateful for the chance I have to share the gospel every day!

Well, not much happening in these parts! We are still looking for lots of new investigators and hoping the ones we have will continue progressing! Hermana Irma is doing great, praying for her baptismal date. She says she feels so much more calm and peace, and was really excited when we taught about temples this week - that she can help her mom accept the gospel as well. 

Regarding the experiences of Alma and Amulek, I haven't had rocks thrown at me or been spit upon, and have never been thrown in prison, so I count myself among the lucky ones! 

We didn't have transfers this week, so I will be with Hermana Zaragoza until she finishes her mission in June. To be with a companion 2 changes in a row is something I have never done before so I'm pretty excited! She's really great and I've learned lots from her. We have a good time together. 

This morning for Pday we went to a national park close to the city here called "El Picacho". It was really pretty, and although it is an overcast day we could see the whole city. We also got to see the "Cristo Picacho" statue, which is enormous and also really neat.

It was sure fun to talk yesterday. After all we went through to get Skype going, it finally worked! First we asked two different member families to lend us their laptops to be able to talk at the same time. Then we had a member take us in her car over to the church where we were going to use the internet, but we couldn't get it working. So then we went back over to Hermana Xiomara's house where at last it all worked. Whew! But you all looked great and it was fun to get to meet the two new babies and to see everyone else. 

Hermana Xiomara is the R.S. president and her husband is the first counselor in the bishopric.They live across the street from us and take care of us real well. They are converts of 4 years, and their oldest son has been in Guatemala on his mission since January, so they get real excited about missionary stuff. She was sitting at my side just out of reach of the camera and asking me questions and so that's who I was talking to. She was glad to be able to meet you all! 

We are still working to find investigators who want to progress. Daniela is doing really well and went to Mutual last week and to a ward activity! 

Hermana Irma was worrying us a couple weeks back because she said she couldn't accept the Book of Mormon. And based on what her family had told her, she shouldn't have been trying any other church than the Catholic church, so she didn't want to keep listening to us. It made us kind of sad but we kept going and trying to explain in different ways the necessity of the Book of Mormon. Last week as a last resort we assigned her to read 2 Nephi 29 (the bible, bible, bible chapter) and that made all the difference. She received a further understanding that God has many books, and that He is the same today, yesterday, and forever, and why would she reject more of the word of God? It was an awesome lesson where she practically taught us. I received another witness that the Book of Mormon really is the word of God. We had used all of our own words and had testified all we could, but it wasn't until we let the scriptures do the talking that the Spirit was really able to drive it home for her. I think she is doing okay now, and we will see how she continues to progress. 

Well, thank you so much for your prayers and support. I am doing really well and enjoying the time I have here. I have such a great testimony of prayer and the wonderful ways God blesses us in mysterious ways.

Skyping the family on Mothers Day!

Note from Amy's dad: Some close friends of a daughter-in-law went to Honduras last week on business. Their names are Rachel & Jeff, referred to below. Given that Amy is recovering from mononucleosis, they offered to deliver something from us to the Mission Home (with Pres. Bowler's approval). Coincidentally, Amy & her companion were asked to stay there Monday night to accompany a sister who went home unexpectedly. As her parents, we felt it was a tender mercy. 

This week was pretty good!

Monday was a little stressful with us staying over at the mission home, but Tuesday was really neat that we could meet Rachel and Jeff. That was a cool opportunity. They are really special people, and had had quite the adventure finding us here in the city! 

We had a great zone conference where we gave a class about using time wisely, which was really nerve wracking, but I think it turned out okay. The other messages given were really good, about how to tell when an investigator is progressing and how to really use the time we have been given the most efficiently we can. 

The work is going well here. We are patiently and diligently finding people to teach! We are working with Daniela right now, the daughter of a less-active sister. We took her to church yesterday and she was already friends with a lot of the young women from school, which was awesome. Daniela is facing some medical challenges right now and the faith she has is incredible. She told us she is excited to be baptized because it will give her the strength she needs. 

I am doing really well. Thanks so much for the prayers and support! I am so grateful for the power of prayer, and having my Heavenly Father so close to me. I am grateful to be a missionary and to be able to spend this time in Honduras, as crazy as it is :)
